Culver City Beauty College
Training Plan/Technical Approach

I. Training Description:
This section will describe the training programs which students must go through in order to meet the licensing requirements setforth by the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. Each student must satisfy the prerequisite in-school hours before become eligible to take the state board exam. The prerequisite hours for each course are:
-Cosmetology-License to do hair, nail, and skincare 1600 Hours
-Aesthetic- License to do skin care only 600 Hours
-Instructor Trainee (MUST HAVE COSMETOLOGY LICENSE) 600 Hours
(IMPORTANT NOTICE: EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2005, THE BOARD OF BARBERING AND COSMETOLOGY NO LONGER HAS THE AUTHORITY TO ISSUE NEW OR RENEWAL LICENSES FOR BARBER OR COSMETOLOGY INSTRUCTORS)

Each student must go through three stages of training during his/her tenure at Culver City Beauty College. The three stages are described as follows:

1/ Freshman Class:

The Freshman Curriculum for each course requires a specific number of hours with heavy emphasis on classroom lectures, demonstrations, and basic methodology. The Freshman Class teaches the students from the very beginning and introduces the fundamentals that are basics for the courses. The hours spent in the Freshman Class are as follows:
Cosmetology- 300 Hours
Aesthetic- 200 Hours
Instructor- 100 Hours

2/ Practical Class:
Once the student completes the Freshman Class, he or she will move on to the clinical/practical stage where the student will work with live models and clients. Using the knowledge and understanding from the freshman class the student is now going through a practical stage in order to perfect the method of practice. Culver City Beauty College enjoys a long list of repeat clientele due to its excellent training program; therefore, the students are constantly improving their techniques by working on clients and not mannequin heads. Of course, during this practical stage the student will be closely monitored and supervised by our highly qualified instructors.

3/ Advanced Class:
During this advanced stage of the training, the students will go through a rigorous review procedure to prepare for the state board exam in both practical and theory. In addition, the students will learn to practice managing the reception desk, logging patrons in, operating the cash register. Our students will also learn inventory control and assist in operating the supply system. Our objective is to help the students become
"salon ready".

Upon reaching the advanced class, the students will become eligible for an "actual salon training" program known as the externship program. This program provides that the student enrolled in Culver CIty Beauty College, a private school of cosmetology approved by the council for private post-secondary and vocational education in a course approved by the state board of barbering and cosmetology, may work, on a voluntary basis, at a licensed salon esablishment, and that the student may recieve school credit for the work in that salon establishment. It is the purpose of the externship program and the intention of Culver CIty Beauty College to acquire emplyment in the beauty industry for which they are being trained, and to extend formalized classroom instruction.

Since it's inception date, February 1, 1996, the externship program produces a highly successful placement rate of about eight percent (80%); which means that for every ten students sent out to the salon esablishments under the externship program, eight students would gain employment with those same salon esablishments after graduating from Culver City Beauty College. The advantage of the externship program is that it allows the students the opportunity to impress and dazzle the salon esablishments with their skills, work ethics, and professionalism while being a student trainee. In essence, the successful extern graduate will be in good position to make the transition from a trainee into a full time employee with the salon establishment due to the extended on the job training period under the externship program.
